Indigenous Tourism: A path to economic reconciliation

From coast to coast to coast, we honour the heritage, vibrant cultures, and communities of the First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples.

iTOTEM is committed to reconciliation through our daily work. One of our priorities includes partnering with the Indigenous Tourism Association of Canada (ITAC). We support ITAC’s mission of promoting Indigenous economic reconciliation by streamlining the data collection and reporting processes for Indigenous tourism operators as they advance their business export readiness.

Indigenous tourism is a key contributor to Canada’s economy. In fact, according to this op-ed by ITAC’s president, Keith Henry, Indigenous tourism added an estimated $1.2 billion to the Canadian GDP in 2022.  These figures highlight Indigenous tourism as a leading catalyst for economic reconciliation in our country.

The Indigenous Tourism Association of Canada and Indigenous Tourism operators are showing a path forward for economic reconciliation in Canada. Learn more here about their invaluable contributions here.
